08 Oct 2021

The takeaway

The regulation on the minimum salary for employees with higher education qualifications is to be eliminated as of 1 January 2022. The guaranteed national minimum gross basic salary will be RON 2,550/month.

In detail

Government Decision no. 1071/2021 (GD no. 1071/2021) established that, as of 1 January 2022, the guaranteed national minimum gross basic salary will be RON 2,550/month (currently RON 2,300/month). From the same date, the exception regarding the minimum salary for staff employed in positions requiring higher education qualifications and at least one year of experience in the studied field is to be eliminated.

Thus, the new minimum gross salary will be RON 250/month more than the current minimum wage. In net value, that is an increase of 10% (RON 138/month).

That RON 2,550/month does not include bonuses and other additions. It is to be granted for a normal work schedule averaging 167.33 hours/month, representing RON 15,239/hour.
