Partner, Tax and Legal Services Leader, Romania
A former official of the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Daniel Anghel joined PwC in 1997. He is currently the leader of Indirect Taxes team within PwC Central and Eastern Europe, being an expert in VAT, customs procedures and international trade, specialising in issues related to the management of Indirect Tax risks, planning to minimise the impact of Indirect Taxes and the optimisation of cross-border operations.
Daniel Anghel has a Degree in Economics from the Academy of Economic Studies of Bucharest and a Professional Certificate in Management from the Open University through the London Business School.
He is the Vice President of the Foreign Investors Council, member of the Chamber of Tax Consultants (tax consultant), founding member of “Pactul pentru Fiscalitate”, member AREX (Asociatia Exportatorilor din Romania), coordinator of the Environmental Task Force and member of the Taxation Tax Force within “Coalitia pentru Dezvoltarea Romaniei”.
Daniel has been seconded to The Netherlands, Poland, Hungary and The Czech Republic within the PwC network, for a period of six months in order to re-focus Indirect Tax services in line with EU requirements.
He has extensive experience of working with clients in a large range of industries, such as Energy, Oil & Gas, Automotive, Retail, Pharma and Public Sector.
Together with PwC Belgium and PwC United Kingdom, Daniel was involved in the first and second PHARE Projects aiming to harmonise Romanian VAT law with the EU Sixth Directive and to train Romanian tax inspectors to work with the new EU VAT Directive principles. He has extensive experience of tax litigation projects for various clients in Romania. He also coordinated the first Romanian case to record a favourable ECJ Decision.
