Regulators, clients, and investors are raising the bar on sustainability. PwC Romania helps financial institutions meet these demands with speed, expertise, and strategic clarity.
Regulatory frameworks like the CSRD are reshaping how financial institutions operate, requiring scrutiny of value chains, non-financial risk assessments, and transparent sustainability disclosures. At the same time, clients and investors are demanding greater accountability for environmental and social impact, shaping capital flows and reputational risk. This convergence of regulatory pressure and stakeholder expectations is transforming the role of sustainability from compliance to competitive advantage. Financial institutions must now integrate ESG into core business strategy, risk management, and reporting, not just to meet obligations, but to unlock new value.
PwC Romania’s approach is holistic and future-ready. Meeting these expectations takes more than good intentions. It takes expertise, speed, and strategic clarity.

PwC Romania supported leading Romanian financial institutions by conducting limited assuranceon CSRD Sustainability Statements. We focused on, among others, evaluating the company’s process of identifying and presenting information in the Sustainability Statement and assessing whether this information addresses the relevant disclosure requirements from the ESRS.
The assurance engagements enhanced our insight into how financial institutions interpret and operationalize CSRD requirements.
We delivered end-to-end ESG transformation programs to Romanian credit institutions, covering double materiality assessment, ESG governance structuring, strategy development, and CSRD-aligned sustainability reporting. We also designed Sustainable Lending Frameworks tailored to our clients’ market position and regulatory obligations.
The engagement enhanced our ability to tailor ESG solutions to local market realities while building scalable methodologies for future financial sector clients.
We assisted both Romanian and European insurance companies on their sustainability journeys since the early beginnings of ESG reporting. We have performed gap assessments against regulations, evaluated and prepared EU Taxonomy reporting for insurance KPIs, guided the double materiality assessment process, and provided training adapted to our client’s needs.
We deepened our understanding of how insurers prioritize sustainability topics and prepare for ESG regulatory disclosures.
