In brief

An Order of ANAF President has been recently published approving the extended use of electronic signatures for customs clearance of goods imported into and exported from the European Union through Romanian customs offices.

In detail

Effective from 15 September 2014, companies that submit their Entry Summary Declarations via the ICS-RO system (the electronic system of the customs authorities) for goods introduced in the EU through Romanian customs offices may use the advanced electronic signature.

The usage of the extended electronic signature in the ICS-RO system is optional for a period of six months. After this period, extended electronic signatures will be mandatory.

The takeaway

In order to prevent potential delays in customs clearance, we recommend that the companies affected by these provisions should start and complete the procedures for issue of electronic signatures in a timely manner.
